The Canadian Foundation for Aids Research (CANFAR) reminded the city of Toronto that December 1st was World Aids Day.
Keshia Chanté, CANFAR Youth Ambassador and Juno Award Winner (above) was there doing her thing.
A number of volunteers including yours truly were also there braving out the cold and rain to hand out red ribbons, condoms and lollipops to passersby at Dundas Square. A human red ribbon was also made and wouldn’t you know it, I was the one that hurried up and ran onto the balcony of the Jack Astor’s Restaurant across the street to snap a photo of the human red ribbon.
The Facts:
Ever day, more than 7,400 people become infected with HIV.
UNAIDS estimated that 73,000 people in Canada are living with HIV.
More than 10 million young people between 15 and 24 are infected with HIV around the world.
Half of Grade 9 students in Canada WRONGLY believe there is a cure for AIDS.
Christopher Bunting, President of CANFAR and MuchMusic VJ, Sarah Taylor were there to help spread awareness and show support as well.
Thanks to the team at Weber Shandwick for helping to put on a great event.
